Hi! One of the most thorough inventories of 1970's and 1980's arcade video games can be found in The Encyclopedia of Arcade Video Games (Schiffer Book for Collectors) by Bill Kurtz.
Kurtz' book contains, it would appear, a photographic and historic record for every game produced during the classic arcade video game period. His book follows a timeline, and the chapters are distinguished by important turning points that occured during what is known as the 'golden age' of arcade video games.
The book should be considered as a mandatory addition to your library. It contains price info and game listings, especially for the 1970's games, that you are not likely to find anywhere else.
But, there is one huge shortcoming - there is no index. So, while the book is a valuable resource, it is not a field guide.
