MAME vs. JAMMA

 

Hi!  If you are new to the concept of arcade video multi game systems, then you may be experiencing some confusion between these two types - MAME (computer program) and JAMMA (game board).

For our purpose of simple explanation, we will assume that the above description is close enough to distinguish the two types - computer game program (MAME) vs. hard-wired game circuit board (JAMMA).

  

MAME:

Clear an old arcade cabinet of all its game hardware or build a new cabinet.  Install a computer, monitor, controllers, and wiring harness with various MAME interfaces.  Replace the control panel with a larger custom built panel. 

Obtain a MAME operating system.  Find MAME games online. Download games to the computer MAME software.  Set up and tweak the games for playability. Research and order MAME hardware interfaces.

Typically, building a MAME arcade machine is an undertaking for a serious, sophisticated, technically savvy hobbyist with the time, tools, materials, plans, and knowledge to do the project.

Operating the MAME machine requires an additional skill set for executing keyboard commands.

A MAME system does not display proportionally correct a vertical image game (for example, Donkey Kong) on a horizontally mounted monitor, the game image will be too short and too wide.

  

JAMMA:

Decide the style of multi game machine for the looks and games that you want. Call or send me an email order.
