Operation:
(1) Turn on the AC power, and wait a couple of minutes while the system boots up.
(2) You might notice the displayed system name, "Beyond Arcade." The system is called "Multi Williams," because it features Defender and many other classic Williams games.
(3) When boot-up is complete, the menu screen will appear. The first listing selection is Defender, followed by Stargate, and so on.
(4) Until a selection is made, the system will cycle, in listing order, through the attract modes for each of the 19 games.
(5) To select a game, press one of the two player start buttons (usually white). Then, use the joystick up-down or right-left to quickly find and display the attract screen for the desired game.
(6) To start the selected game, press either the one player or the two players start button (usually white).
Hard DIP Settings:
(1) The hard DIP switch (on the PCB) default/typical settings (see manual page 1) -
1 = Off - screen orientation.
2 = On - VGA for LCD/LED monitor (Off - CGA for CRT monitor).
3 = On - high score save on.
4 = Off - in play mode (On - in test/setting mode).
(2) When high score save is turned on, scores will be saved only while the machine power is turned on.
Soft DIP Settings:
(1) If certain of the 19 games cannot be played properly due to lack of controller capability, those games can be turned off using the soft DIP switches.
(2) Additionally, you can turn off or turn on any of the games.
(3) Refer to the manual (page 2) for instructions to turn games on or off.
Cabinet (Controls) Settings:
System should be set for Upright / 1 Joystick or Upright / 2 Joysticks based upon the control panel configuration of your machine (see manual page 2).
These are the correct soft DIP SW 2 settings for Cabinet (the manual is misprinted):
- #4 Off and #5 Off = Upright / 1 Joystick
- #4 Off and #5 On = Upright / 2 Joysticks
Effect of Cabinet settings:
Upright / 1 Joystick -
- Defender - allows two players, alternating, 1 set of controls (normal play).
- Joust - allows one player only (not normal two player simultaneous play).
- Robotron - allows only 1 joystick and buttons (okay, but not normal 2 joystick play). Robotron game setting change is also required (see manual page 8).
Upright / 2 Joysticks (the usually preferred setting) -
- Defender - one player only, no two player alternating play, unless a second set of controls are installed (okay for one player only, but not normal alternating play).
- Joust - two players simultaneous (normal play).
- Robotron - 2 joysticks, two players alternating (normal play). Robotron game setting change is also required (see manual page 8).
